"Chica" is a really cool mare! We purchased her as a two-year old and immediately sent her to train with Juan Gonzalez, Wetmore, CO. Juan had 18 months to prepare Chica for Jerry's show mount.
In 2018, Mary Anne showed Chica at the Kansas State Fair Pinto and APHA shows. They earned numerous points in both associations in Halter, Western Pleasure, HUS, Horsemanship, Showmanship, and two Reserve Championship in Halter Mares.
That fall, Jerry decided he wanted to show Chica in Ranch classes for 2019. Kelly Jensen took Chica over the winter to get her seasoned for ranch classes.
Jerry, Kelly, and Chica had a very successful show season, winning in 2019 KPHA Year End Awards: Champion Ranch Trail and Ranch Riding; and Reserve Class Champion Amateur Ranch Pleasure and Amateur Ranch Rail. Points in Halter, English, Western Pleasure, and Ranch Open and Amateur.
We were excited to show again in 2020, but the Covid-19 Pandemic stopped our show season. Unfortunately, Chica had to be retired to broodmare in 2021, due to an injury.
Future Progeny
Chica is a maiden mare and has been left open this year. We are currently evaluating potential sires in our area to breed Chica to in 2022. We plan to choose a stallion that will add to her color genetic panel and compliment her great conformation, disposition, and performance show record.
